ORANGE FARM — ICASA

Hi

As you you are aware ICASA recently confiscated our equipment in Orange Farm.  Not only were the radios removed, but the poles and cables too. It would have been much more civil if the equipment was just turned off or infact we were given an opprtunity to rectify the problem.

The consequences of ICASA’s actions have really caused quite a bit of distress. Internet cafe’s that were lively and hubs of social and entrepreneurial activity have a morbid feel.

Stop parading people for commercial gain. It really is uncalled for when relief can be sought within the provisions contained in the ECA. The Authority had to have acted within the ambit of the ECA - do you have a frequency spectrum license in order to carry out such activity?

At “Habitat for Humanity”, frequency spectrum license is the oppressors tool and the ECA act is a vehicle for neo-capitalists to control and exploit the poor. Why should we pay for the air, why should rural communities suffer because greedy white ISP’s refuse to service the grassroots people. Sit in Sandton and abide by your laws, but don’t interfere with people trying to uplift themselves, to hell with Telkom and ICASA.
